Who supports a child's development and learning? Families and schools, of course, but what about the community? Early literacy and preschool outreach librarians know that public libraries support children's early development through service to their community's families and schools and the space they occupy in between.
Let's get together and discuss the documentary, No Small Matter. Please bring your inspirations, ideas, and any other big takeaways that were revealed to you.
Some ideas we can touch on include how the research, science, and discoveries in the film might impact your library's policies and the services, programs, and physical/virtual space you provide. This is especially impactful as we continue to shift our services in response to COVID-19.
No Small Matter: This is the first feature documentary to explore the most overlooked, underestimated, and powerful force for good in America today: early childhood education. Through poignant stories and surprising humor, the film lays out the overwhelming evidence for the importance of the first five years and reveals how our failure to act on that evidence has resulted in an everyday crisis for American families and a slow-motion catastrophe for the country.
Please watch this documentary before our April 15th meeting. It is available for viewing in the following ways:
