Program Description

Compassion Fatigue, Emotional Labor, Burnout and various other issues/terms have been recent topics of conversations. Yvette Garcia, Branch Manager at Chicago Public Library, will be sharing practical tips for library workers for self-care during difficult times. Participants will walk away with suggestions that are focused on front-line service, daily interactions/reactions, and advice from 15+ years of working in busy public libraries.

60 Minute Session | Session will be recorded and available by October 1, 2021.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to identify strategies for coping with internal and external stressors created during difficult times, such as the pandemic.

Yvette Garcia

Chicago Public Library | Branch Manager

Yvette Garcia has served in various roles throughout her career with Chicago Public Library, with nearly twenty years of experience advocating for patrons of all ages in libraries. Outside of CPL, Yvette has contributed to the field of librarianship by taking on leadership roles with the young adult division of ALA, YALSA. Additionally, she has presented in a variety of settings and topics, most recently “Promoting Civic Engagement for Teens” at PLA’s 2020 annual conference, which is featured in PLA 2020: Ten Essential Programs. Yvette graduated with an MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.A. in Economics from Knox College.
