RSA will provide a box lunch (sandwich, grapes, chips, cookie). Registrants will be contacted via email about lunch details in advance of the event.

Many attempts to ban books in schools and libraries have made headlines over the past few months. Almost all of these attempts have failed and yet the attempts continue. Why do people ban books? What are they trying to accomplish? This talk will focus on the reasons why people challenge books and how the challenges violate the principles of both intellectual freedom and social justice and what librarians can do to be prepared to respond to these challenges.

PAUSE: 5 Ways to be More Mindful©, facilitated by Cindy Byrd
Being in the moment and mindful about the experiences we’re creating for others, is key to building quality relationships. The reality, however, is that distractions and demands are everywhere, which increases stress and strains the ability to be fully present with ourselves and others. This session offers the unique opportunity to learn with someone who has personally applied mindfulness to reduce stress, enhance presence, and improve quality of life. You’ll learn the meaning and benefits of mindfulness, along with simple techniques for easily integrating it into your day. You’ll leave with improved focus and quality resources to help you continue the journey toward greater mindfulness in all parts of your life.
