People living with dementia often feel stigmatized and excluded from the larger society. One common misconception is that they can no longer read or benefit from library print materials.
This webinar will present findings from academic research studies that demonstrate just the opposite. While those living with dementia may be reading in a different way and for different purposes, research shows that there are still valuable and important benefits from offering them literacy opportunities.
Literacy activities can include reading out loud, browsing through books, singing using printed lyrics, choral reading of poetry, and storytelling. Efforts from across the globe will be highlighted and suggestions for practical applications in libraries will be offered.
All ILA Noon Network webinars are free and recordings will be made available shortly after the webinars. Registration for all live webinars is limited to Illinois libraries. Others may view the recordings when they are available.
