Looking for great books for your patrons interested in getting closer to nature? Want to help parents reduce climate anxiety in kids with books about doable, impactful green actions for children to take? Want a simple booklist to share on Earth Day, Arbor Day, or other ecological holidays? Looking for a way you can make a difference in your community for the earth? Do you have local teachers asking for your best books on nature?
Evanston Public Library puts in 15 months of work to read all the nature and planet books for kids 3 -10 for a given year and then picks out the very best so you don't have to!
Learn about the Blueberry Awards, featuring the best books to help kids connect with nature and take action for the planet. Blueberry Committee members, Betsy Bird, Martha Meyer and Bridget Petrites will share book talks of their favorites from the 2022 Blueberry Awards (just announced in March!).
Find out how you can get the book titles, a flyer, and even book stickers for your books, all before each Earth Day. Learn how Evanston Public Library uses the Blueberry Awards to partner with our local ecology center as well as the Chicago Botanic Garden and the Morton Arboretum. And learn from Villa Park Public Library's Youth Services Director how she uses the Blueberry in her library.
Don't miss out on this simple to use, simple to support effort. The program also includes a video from Katherine Applegate, Newbery Winner for The One and Only Ivan and now 2022 Blueberry Honor Winner for Odder, about the importance of the Blueberry Awards for kids today.
