IHLS Members Matter & Third Thursday CE

Third Thursdays CE: Local Records Act with the Illinois State Archives

10–11 a.m. each third Thursday of the month

Join us online or in person each third Thursday of the month from 10-11 a.m. to hear from a guest speaker about an important or arising topic facing the library community.

All Third Thursday CE sessions will be streamed live, but participants who are also attending the IHLS Members Matter meeting are encouraged to attend both events in person at a rotating location.

This Month

Speaker: Cheri Cameron, Records Archivist, Illinois State Archives

Session Description: This session is for anyone new to records management or anyone needing a refresher course. There’s no shame in this game; work together with the Illinois State Archives to get your library in compliance with the Local Records Act! You’ll come away with techniques and best practices for stewarding public records, protecting your library from liabilities, and preventing illegal destruction of records.

By the end of the presentation, attendees will: 

• Identify the requirements of the Records Retention Act
• Implement the processes involved for both analog and digital records
• Learn what not to do regarding destruction of records

There will be time for Q&A. The Zoom chat will be monitored by IHLS staff and participation is encouraged!

All IHLS Members Matter meetings will be hybrid. However, in-person attendance at our rotating location is encouraged so you can get the most out of these monthly networking opportunities.
