This Month
Speaker: AISLE Southern Illinois Librarians Together (SILT) Chapter. The SILT chapter represents school librarians from Southwest Central, Southeast Central, and Southern counties in Illinois.
Session Description: School librarians are champions of literacy, whether that be information, economic, media, or workforce literacy. Join us as the Southern Illinois Librarians Together (SILT) chapter of the Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE) brings you their plans for a workforce readiness toolkit.
Certified school librarians identified a need for educators to have a literacy toolkit with learning benchmarks that would prepare 9th through12th graders for the evolving workforces of Illinois counties. The SILT chapter started this project in 2018 by conducting formal interviews with post-secondary institutions and is working closely with school administrations, community stakeholders, and workforce leaders. SILT’s goal is to put together a comprehensive resource for Illinois educators to empower their students for any future they choose.
By the end of the presentation, attendees will:
- Recognize the workforce readiness toolkit as a resource for students in their communities.
- Be prepared to promote the toolkit to colleagues in school communities.
- Connect with the SILT chapter to suggest additional resources for the toolkit.
There will be time for Q&A. The Zoom chat will be monitored by IHLS staff and participation is encouraged!
