In the wake of the uprisings of 2020, the work of integrating social justice into our work took on a greater role for many of us. in libraries. Many of us looked for ways to make our catalogs more equitable. A few years later, we're now at an inflection point: will we think of this work as a task to be completed and dismissed? Or will we be able to sustainably continue this work into the future?
Join Chicago-based cataloging librarian Violet Fox for a discussion about the past, present, and future of inclusive cataloging. Participants will learn about projects being done around the world to address long-standing bias in our catalogs, providing new opportunities to continue this work in their own systems. Attendees will also come away from the session with a renewed awareness of how this work can positively impact both library workers and our users. No cataloging knowledge is needed for this conversation; anyone with an interest in making our knowledge organization structures more just and fair is welcome!
