The Crab Orchard Public Library District is a rural library serving a large territory of 155 square miles and nearly 7,000 patrons from a central location. Staff finds ways to bring the library to its patrons by serving local schools, and delivering to patrons that are homebound, homeschool families, new parents, and/or patrons with no transportation.
The library has developed outreach services using a pre-owned cargo van acquired through a grant and the innovative use of free and inexpensive shelving for library materials. Many patrons the library serves experience high poverty levels and greatly benefit from the access to resources and entertainment such as free Wi-Fi, that the library provides with its outreach van, as well as positive library experiences.
This webinar will demonstrate easily replicated methods for providing library services to all patrons with little to no budget.
