The American Library Association offered a Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities grant that provided funding for projects that increased accessibility to people with disabilities. This opportunity was only available to Small and Rural libraries, and each grantee was required to define the primary audience they hoped to reach with the grant. Join this panel discussion to hear how four libraries in IHLS are using their grant funds and making their libraries more accessible for populations in their communities.
Participating on this panel:
- Samantha Oakley, Project Director, Public Programs Office, American Library Association
- Ginger Newingham, Director, Athens Municipal Library
- Nichole Lauko, Director, Millstadt Library
- Denise Rainford, Youth Services Director, Rochester Public Library District
- Vicki Carr, Director, South Macon Public Library District

About Illinois Heartland Library System
As one of the three library systems in Illinois—and one of two multi-type library systems—Illinois Heartland Library System (IHLS) is the library's support partner, serving libraries of all types and the staffers and trustees that work for them. IHLS provides the libraries of southern and part of central Illinois with interlibrary loan delivery service, access to digital collections and the SHARE automation consortium, continuing education, networking opportunities, discounts and group purchases, access to state grant opportunities, and more.
