About This Event

Cataloging staff who work at Resource Sharing Alliance (RSA) member libraries are invited to a Basic WorkFlows Cataloging Workshop, hosted online in Zoom. This workshop is helpful for new catalogers or existing catalogers in need of a refresher.

Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, limited to six RSA member library staff. Please register on L2 no later than 12:00 pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

Soon after registration has closed, the instructor will send registrants the Zoom access link and a welcome email.

Formal instruction will take approximately four hours to complete, with a 10-minute break around the halfway point. The instructor will remain in Zoom an additional 30 minutes after the workshop to answer any questions.

Please note that this workshop will not be recorded for later viewing.

To participate in this workshop, a registrant must meet these requirements:

  • Attend the full workshop session:  Tuesday, April 29, 2025  12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • Basic familiarity using a mouse and keyboard, as well as the ability to clearly view a computer screen.
  • Receive written and/or verbal permission from a supervisor, Director, or administration to register for this workshop. No need to share proof of permission with RSA. The registrant – not RSA – is responsible for meeting this requirement.
  • Access to an internet-connected computer.
  • Access to WorkFlows on that computer. WorkFlows installations must be completed prior to the start of the workshop. For assistance, contact the RSA Help Desk at 1-866-940-4083 or help@rsanfp.org
  • Access to a functional web cam on the computer. If a registrant lacks web cam access, RSA will provide one to use during the workshop. Please indicate during L2 registration, using the free-text Notes field, if an RSA web cam is necessary.
  • Log into Zoom to ensure a successful connection 15 minutes prior to the start of the workshop.
  • Cancel registration on L2 as soon as possible if no longer able to participate in the workshop.

Workshop objectives:

  • Receive an individually named account to catalog at the basic level in the WorkFlows database (if the registrant is not already using an individual account).
  • Through hands-on practice, learn how to use WorkFlows to catalog items in a variety of formats.
  • Create brief records for items that lack matching bibliographic records already in WorkFlows.
  • Discover how to perform global item edits and use the discard account.
  • Find out how RSA, RAILS, and the Cataloging Maintenance Center provide original cataloging assistance.
  • Review reports that identify cataloging issues in need of correction to ensure a quality database and optimal discoverability for users.

This workshop will NOT discuss:

  • magazine cataloging
  • item group editor
  • OCLC Connexion
  • editing, upgrading, and creating original bibliographic records
