As artificial intelligence tools rapidly transform how information is created, shared, and consumed, libraries are uniquely positioned at the front lines of public education to help guide their communities. This interactive workshop introduces librarians to the core concepts of AI safety—how to understand emerging risks, evaluate trustworthy AI systems, and support communities navigating an increasingly automated information landscape. Participants will explore practical scenarios relevant to public institutions, from misinformation and data privacy to equitable access and responsible implementation. No technical background required. By the end, librarians will leave with concrete understanding of the AI ecosystem and the short, medium, and long term risks that we face.
