About This Event

Join ERLE (Emergent Readers & Lower Elementary) for a virtual panel conversation about how libraries can help support families as their kids in lower elementary (K-3rd grades) learn to read. You will walk away with advice on how to answer caregiver questions and ideas for how your library can better support emergent literacy.

This panel will provide a variety of perspectives and experiences from front-line stakeholders, educators, and local literacy organizations including:

  • Barb Fitzsimons - Reading interventionist, literacy tutor, and former first grade teacher/instructional coach
  • Shira Schwartz - President of Everyone Reading Illinois, educational advocate, veteran educator, and dyslexia specialist
  • Beth Kovacic - Elementary School Librarian and 2023 AISLE Exemplary School Library Award recipient
  • Tiffany Tafe - First grade teacher, National SEED Project Leader, Erikson Institute Early Math Collaborative teacher
  • Louise Dechovitz - The Reading League IL board member, Co-Founder Illinois Early Literacy Coalition, former school board member
