Lillie M. Evans Library District
About Us
The Princeville Public Library was established May 31, 1927. In 1956, the name was changed to the Lillie M. Evans Library after Mrs. Evans made a new library building and its furnishing possible through the conditions of her will. An annexation referendum in November 1990 enlarged the library's boundaries to those of the Princeville School District CUSD #326 and the library expanded to a district library. The Lillie M. Evans Library District serves not only Princeville but many surrounding communities previously unserved including Edelstein, Monica and Laura.
The library has been expanded twice. This has increased the size of the library from 4,000 s.f. to 12,618 s.f. In 2001, the library was remodeled and the building more than doubled in size. In 2017, the building was again expanded to accommodate a larger children's area and more meeting spaces. The facility is ADA compliant and houses our collection which includes approximately 32,000 items. The LME Library is a member of the Resource Sharing Alliance which makes it easy for our users to search and to borrow materials from almost 200 libraries in central Illinois. In addition to our library catalog, RSAcat, the library subscribes to several online resources for our patrons. These resources are available through our webpage at http://lmelibrary.org.
The mission of the Lillie M. Evans Library District is to provide materials and services to help residents meet their personal, educational, cultural, and professional needs. The Lillie M. Evans Library District supports an environment for life-long learning and is dedicated to making the Princeville community an attractive place in which to live, visit, and work.
